PoliTo H2Fly is a group of open-minded students from Politecnico di Torino who pursue high-tech solutions in marine transportation, with eco-friendly design at the heart of everything they do. Working in harmony and learning from one another, the team combines imagination and strong design skills to innovate, learn and help build the future of marine mobility. Their main goals this year are to drastically improve the boat’s propulsion while developing solutions that are new to the market, focused above all on the cooling system and the materials used in the boat’s construction, aiming to lower its carbon footprint significantly without compromising performance.

The team is composed of highly motivated students from a wide range of technical disciplines, including mechanical engineering, electronics, electrical engineering, computer science, naval architecture, and design. This multidisciplinary structure enables a comprehensive and integrated approach to complex engineering challenges, combining technical performance, functionality, and visual identity. The team operates with the continuous support of experienced mentors from the respective fields, who provide technical guidance, ensure adherence to professional standards, and support knowledge transfer from academia to real-world application.

The boat

PoliTo H2Fly

POLITO H2FLY, from Politecnico di Torino, is developing a lightweight electric racing boat focused on efficiency, reliability, and endurance. The vessel is equipped with a 25 kW electric propulsion system powered by a 9.9 kWh battery pack, delivering strong performance while maintaining a compact and efficient onboard energy architecture. The boat uses advanced tabless battery cells to improve current flow, reduce internal resistance, and support more stable power delivery during high-demand racing conditions. Its PCM cooling system helps regulate battery temperature, improving safety, consistency, and long-term reliability. POLITO H2FLY also integrates improved telemetry, allowing the team to monitor key performance data in real time and optimise the boat’s behaviour during testing and competition. By combining lightweight design, advanced battery technology, thermal management, and data-driven optimisation, POLITO H2FLY offers a high-performance solution for modern electric marine racing.

Follow the team at the Challenge

PoliTo H2Fly competes in the Energy Class at the 13th Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, 7–11 July 2026 in Port Hercule. Fielded by a group of open-minded students from Politecnico di Torino, the team brings Neus 2.0, a light, sleek electric boat that builds on last year’s design with performance gains across almost every system. Its 25 kW outboard motor is paired with higher-capacity batteries offering improved thermal response, while a fully renewed chassis is engineered to withstand the higher loads involved. At its core is a battery cooling system new to the market, which the team believes can revolutionise thermal efficiency during the races and significantly improve safety. Combined with advanced hydrodynamic analysis for weight positioning and propeller design, and a proficient electronic communication system, Neus 2.0 is built to push for the top spots at the Challenge.
