UPRM Racing Team was created in 2014 to raise the visibility of the College of Engineering at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez. From 2016 to 2024, the team competed continuously in every edition of the Solar Splash competition in the United States, twice finishing 1st and 2nd in the overall rankings across the last four editions. Today, UPRM Racing brings together 20 students from the electrical, computer and mechanical engineering departments, with members from every year of study creating a natural balance of experience, knowledge, enthusiasm and determination. The project is supervised by a faculty advisor, while the captain mentors the most experienced members within a hierarchy of sub-teams, a structure that, together with an annual information session, ensures continuity and long-term sustainability.

Guided by a faculty advisor and a captain-led mentoring structure across its sub-teams, UPRM Racing carries that proven track record into Monaco, ready to take on a new international challenge.
For its first appearance at the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, UPRM Racing’s main goal is to design and develop a reliable prototype able to compete successfully in every event of the Energy Class.
The design centres on modular components that simplify shipping logistics and on-site assembly, a key consideration for a team travelling from Puerto Rico. On the water, the team is optimising the prototype for high efficiency at cruising speeds and maximum power transfer at high speeds through tailored propeller designs, carefully matching the propeller response with hull drag and motor behaviour so that the whole system performs at its best across the full speed range. Built on a decade of competition experience, these targeted choices serve one clear objective: to finish among the top 10 in the MEBC Energy Class ranking.
UPRM Racing competes in the Energy Class at the 13th Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, 7–11 July 2026 in Port Hercule. Making its MEBC debut, the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez team brings a modular electric prototype with tailored propeller designs, carefully matched to hull drag and motor behaviour for efficiency at cruising speeds and power at high speeds, aiming for a top-10 finish in the Energy Class.
