The Yacht Club de Monaco’s first Solar1 Ocean Races brought 23 boats from 10 nations to Port Hercule.
The first of what would become a long Dutch history at the top of the Challenge’s solar classes.
1,200 points, the highest score of any class this year.
CLAFIS Private Energy Solar Boat Team II won the Open class in the Challenge’s very first year — the start of a run that stretched to 2018.

The inaugural Solar1 Ocean Races set the template the Challenge still follows: multiple boat classes, a general classification built from points across several on-water tests, and a mix of student and industry teams from across Europe. The V20 one-design class run that first year did not return in later editions as the Challenge evolved toward the Energy Class format introduced in 2018.
