Néréides is an ambitious student project led by future engineers from the University of Technology of Troyes (UTT), dedicated to the design, manufacturing and testing of a hybrid boat powered by hydrogen and batteries. Made up of 30 passionate students, the Néréides team will take part in the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge 2026, aiming to push the boundaries of sustainable innovation and advance marine technology. Driven by a shared commitment to sustainability and technological innovation, the team explores cutting-edge solutions for the maritime industry, organising the creation of its boat into four main areas: engine design, the energy chain, the cockpit, and onboard systems.

Néréides is an ambitious student project led by future engineers from the University of Technology of Troyes (UTT), dedicated to the design, manufacturing and testing of a hybrid boat powered by hydrogen and batteries. Made up of 30 passionate students, the team will take part in the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge 2026 with a clear ambition: to push the boundaries of sustainable innovation and advance marine technology. Driven by a shared commitment to sustainability and engineering excellence, its members explore cutting-edge solutions for the maritime industry, learning by designing, building and testing a real competition vessel from the ground up. To do so, the team organises the creation of its boat into four complementary areas, engine design, the energy chain, the cockpit, and onboard systems, so that every part of the project is developed and integrated in-house.

The boat

Néréides UTT

This year, the Néréides team are developing a new flax fibre cockpit to improve performance while reducing weight. The team is also working on optimising the efficiency of the boat’s propulsion chain by increasing engine power while reducing losses. They will take full responsibility for the creation and integration of all onboard systems, ensuring that every aspect of the boat is carefully designed to meet the competition’s requirements. These developments reflect the team’s commitment to pushing technological boundaries and creating a more sustainable and efficient hydrogen-powered vessel for the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge 2026.

Follow the team at the Challenge

Néréides UTT competes in the Energy Class at the 13th Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, 7–11 July 2026 in Port Hercule. Fielded by 30 students from the University of Technology of Troyes, organised into four units covering engine design, the energy chain, the cockpit and onboard systems, the team brings a hybrid boat powered by hydrogen and batteries. For 2026, it introduces a new flax-fibre cockpit to cut weight while improving performance, and an optimised propulsion chain that increases engine power while reducing losses. Taking full responsibility for the design and integration of every onboard system, Néréides aims to deliver a more sustainable and efficient hydrogen-powered vessel, and to keep pushing technological boundaries throughout the Challenge.
